Ripio’s Argentine Peso, Brazilian Real, Mexican Peso, Colombian Peso, Chilean Peso, and Peruvian Sol Stablecoins are Now Live on Celo

wFIAT, the stablecoin stack from Ripio, the leading crypto infrastructure and digital finance platform in Latin America, is now live on Celo. With the integration, Ripio’s stablecoins tracking the Argentine Peso, Brazilian Real, Mexican Peso, Colombian Peso, Chilean Peso, and Peruvian Sol are supported on Celo. In Ripio and Celo’s joint mission to increase accessibility of digital assets, users can on- and off-ramp at no cost.

Celo has emerged as one of crypto’s leading stablecoin networks, bolstered by its fast, sub-cent transactions and unique ability to pay gas fees directly in accepted stablecoins. Since migrating to an Ethereum L2 in March 2025, the network has processed more than $65 billion in stablecoin volume and over 1.3 billion lifetime transactions, leading Ethereum Layer 2s by daily active users anchored by real-world usage in payments, remittances, and savings.

This expansion ties Ripio to crypto’s leading stablecoin distribution network, reaching real users worldwide across applications from payments and remittances to DeFi and onchain FX. It also brings Celo’s robust stablecoin ecosystem to new heights with a total of 31 stablecoins, further building on the network’s existing footprint in Latin America.

Textile FX, the crosschain FX liquidity network born out of the Celo ecosystem, supports the launch as a day one partner with wARS (Argentine Peso) and wBRL (Brazilian Real) FX trading now live. Textile’s FX protocol is supported by leading institutional liquidity partner Tribeca Park Capital.

“Local currency stablecoins have been a core focus of the Celo ecosystem since the beginning, with our first Latin American currency launch going back to 2022 to unlock savings, spending, and additional real-world use cases that truly benefit users in their everyday lives,” said Dr. Markus Franke, Celo Core Co. Global Head of Stablecoins. “Ripio has delivered on that same thesis at scale across Latin America, introducing the benefits of onchain finance to millions. Bringing wFIAT to Celo is a key unlock for the ecosystem’s growing onchain FX, remittance corridors, and more.”

“wFIAT exists to give people and businesses across Latin America a way to hold, send, and receive money in the currency they actually use, without needing a bank account or a middleman in between,” said Fermin Rodriguez Penelas, Ripio Head of Product, B2B. “Deploying on Celo gives us the infrastructure to do that at scale: low fees, fast settlement, and gas paid directly in stablecoins, the building blocks our partners need to launch real products, from remittances to everyday payments. It’s the right network for wFIAT’s next phase of growth across the region.”

wFIAT is fully collateralized 1:1 by local fiat currency and local currency-denominated instruments held at regulated institutions, and is issued as an ERC-20 standard with role-based mint/burn permissions, pausability, and upgradeable contract architecture.
