Ligero has integrated Celo, expanding compliant private payments and adding a privacy and compliance layer to the Ethereum Layer 2 built for the real world with the leading programmable rails for global finance.

Ligero’s private payment infrastructure is leveraged across the wallets, fintechs, and applications businesses already run on, including Google’s implementation of Ligero zero-knowledge infrastructure for Google Wallet. Its platform protects sender, receiver, and transaction amount onchain, while keeping KYC-gated access, selective disclosure, audit visibility, and programmable controls like allowlists, blacklists, and freeze capability built into the transaction layer.

The integration enhances Celo’s suite of privacy-first infrastructure and tooling, alongside identity and proof-of-human solutions built by Self.xyz. As enterprises increasingly enter the blockchain ecosystem and turn to Celo’s fast, low-cost rails for global payment flows, privacy and compliance are a core unlock to achieve adoption at scale. Ligero and Celo are launching with partner-led workflows first: payroll, treasury transfers, merchant payments, freelancer payments, and business-to-business stablecoin flows, ahead of a path toward consumer-facing privacy features across Celo wallets.

“Ligero bolsters Celo’s global stablecoin ecosystem with a powerful privacy and compliance layer that unlocks new use cases for institutions, payroll providers, and payment partners,” said Marek Olszewski, Celo co-founder and Celo Core Co. CEO. “The Ligero team has built one of the most practical ways to make onchain payments private and auditable at the same time. Companies and individuals benefit from Celo’s fast, low-cost payment rails without revealing their proprietary information or compromising on privacy.”

“Public blockchains are becoming real payment rails, but payments create relationships,” said Muthu Venkitasubramaniam, CEO and co-founder of Ligero. “Once I pay you, our wallets are connected, and the privacy assumptions begin to break down. Ligero is bringing compliant private payments to Celo so builders can protect users and counterparties without forcing them into new wallets, new chains, or new custody infrastructure.”

Ligero is now available to Celo ecosystem partners building privacy-enabled stablecoin payment workflows. To learn more about Ligero’s solutions on Celo and how you can leverage the infrastructure, contact ops@ligero-inc.com.
