AI agents can settle USDC payments on Celo through MPP, the open HTTP 402 payment standard, on the same facilitator that already runs Celo’s native x402 support.
Celo is now among the first chains to bring native support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) onchain, bolstering one of the fastest-growing agentic economies in crypto by introducing a second native agentic payments standard. Support for Stripe and Tempo’s agentic commerce primitive comes just days after the implementation of a native x402 facilitator. The launch further establishes Celo’s strength as a network for agentic payments, building on the chain’s fast, low-cost infrastructure, diverse global applications, and facilitating real stablecoin payments, remittances, and commerce today.

With Celo-native MPP, a seller can charge USDC per request through the mppx SDK, with the buyer’s agent paying no gas fee and settlement running through the same facilitator that already handles Celo’s x402 support. Celo has emerged as a chain of choice for the industry’s leading agentic developers, with:

The agent payments space has yet to consolidate around a single standard, with x402 backed by Coinbase and MPP backed by Stripe both seeing strong early adoption, leaving sellers who support only one likely to lose buyers using the other. Native support for both on a single facilitator closes that gap, letting a seller on Celo gate an endpoint behind whichever standard its buyers already use without standing up separate infrastructure for each.
In “Vision 2030”, published Earth Day 2025 for Celo’s fifth mainnet anniversary, co-founder Rene Reinsberg identified agentic commerce and payment as a core pillar to the leading stablecoin network’s path to a trillion-dollar onchain economy. That vision is coming to life today through Celo’s strength as a leading agentic chain. Prezenti’s latest ecosystem grant funding round, where nearly 50% of applicants built agentic solutions on Celo, and critical infrastructure like native MPP and x402 support further this growth.

MPP settles through the same mechanism as Celo’s x402 facilitator: USDC moves from buyer to seller directly via EIP-3009’s transferWithAuthorization, with the facilitator submitting the transaction and sponsoring gas without custodying funds at any point. The integration currently supports MPP’s one-time charge intent, a fixed price per request; session and subscription intents are not yet available on the EVM path.
